Do you love great food like we do? We’ve found the balance between delicious dinners and short tours.

FOCUS ON FOOD will appeal to people who like to experience great food in amazing settings at an easy pace. You also have plenty of time to mooch around the cafes and shops of the UNESCO listed old town.

All breakfasts are included. Lunches and dinners in the itinerary are mostly a la carte and high end.

Accommodation options are at Villa Somphong – a quaint guesthouse overlooking the river or upgrade to the Victoria Hotel which has a reputation for excellent locations.

Day 1

Arrive Luang Prabang.

Enjoy a 20-minute drive in an air con van then settle in to your hotel. You’ll be helped out with all practicalities. Take a shower and relax before a short stroll to your welcome dinner overlooking the river.

After dinner we wander through the night market and see locals display their clothes and trinkets. Pick up a bargain to take back home as gifts.

Day 2

Pak Ou Caves with lunch

Pak Ou Caves are home to thousands (4000+) Buddha statues, located on the rocky cliff with faces overlooking to the Mekong river. Those Buddha images follow various of positions such as meditation, peace and nirvana. Most of the statues were made of wood; and the rest of them were made of resin and even earthenware and animal bones

Baci ceremony and help cook dinner

With a local family, you will take part in a “Baci” ceremony, which is a local custom performed when a mother has recovered from childbirth, when a sick person has been cured, or when monks are entering the temple. The ceremony can take place any day of the week and all through the year, but preferably before noon or before sunset.

It’s Laos tradition for guests to help cook dinner! Using the bamboo plant as a key ingredient you’ll help make dishes such as bamboo shoot soup, bamboo shoot steamed in banana leaf, and bamboo shoot dip and more.

After your dinner enjoy a show of traditional music performs by local musician in the Hmong traditional costume. As you listen to the music, admire the breathtaking views of the rice fields surrounding the building. 

After this final experience is finished, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 3

Old town walking tour including Wat tour. Royal Palace Tour 

Depart from hotel on foot to explore the delightful UNESCO old town. See the old French Colonial buildings alongside the Laos traditional homes.

Break for lunch.

1pm depart from your hotel and go by tuk-tuk to the Royal Palace. It houses a lot of interesting historical items. Every item tells a story…so you will learn quite a lot about Laos history and about the former Laos royal family.

Dinner. 

Tonight’s dinner is French Artisan Cuisine in a UNESCO classified two – story wooden house.

Day 4

Kuang Si Waterfalls with lunch

Morning departure to the waterfall. Pack your swimmers as we head out of town in our air con van to Kuang Si waterfalls. Layer after layer of cascading turquoise water. Great for a swim or simply relax, enjoy and take some great photos.

Lunch

Dine at a tranquil restaurant. Here you will enjoy high quality food whilst watching the waters cascade past your table. Even have another swim here!

Day 5

Laos Cooking Class and Market Tour

Today you’ll spend the day immersed in Laos food! Shop for ingredients at the local market and learn to cook some typical Laos dishes

Day 6

High Morning Tea 

Depart the hotel at 10.30am for a stroll through the backstreets of the UNESCO listed old town

Our high tea (sweet) will be served in an art deco air con setting

Late afternoon Mekong River Cruise

Relax as you get to enjoy the sunset from the comfort of an armchair with a drink and dinner. Amazing photo opportunities. (4:30pm-6:30pm)

Day 7

Ock Pop Tock Short Tour and lunch

Optional extra – dyeing, weaving or Batik workshop 9am – 12pm

Today we depart for lunch at Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center.

Late morning, you will enjoy a 20 minute tour of the beautiful Living Crafts Center where you will learn about Laos textiles from the silkworm to the finished product. Their knowledgeable staff will show you how natural dyes are made and introduce you to the most popular weaving techniques in Laos. You can wander through their weaving room and watch the experts at work creating masterpieces before your eyes.

Have a look at the shop knowing that every purchase helps Laos people.

Catch the Ock Pop Tock tuk-tuk back to town at your leisure

Free afternoon 

Dinner

Tonight you’ll take a tuk-tuk ride to a Swiss style restaurant in a traditional Laos house in the suburbs

Simply mooch around the delightful old town’s café’s and shops. Perhaps a massage or facial?

Farewell Dinner

To finish our tour we depart for our our final group dinner. Tonight’s dinner features Laotian Family Cuisine specialties from all regions of Laos. We Dine under the stars surrounded by a UNESCO classified lily pond, immersed in  tropical ambiance.

A great way to celebrate our time together with newly made friends.
